After reading the story and discussing the diary style of writing, we had our kids create their own Diary of a Spider. I made this template that resembled a diary somewhat. :) The kids wrote their date for each entry, drew a picture to show what they did that day and then wrote about it. I really encouraged detailed pictures and NEAT writing since it was going to be displayed in the hallway. :)

To make the spiders, we took a 8.5 X 11 sheet of black construction paper, folded it in half and traced our hand! We had to leave our thumb off the paper when we traced so we were only using 4 fingers. When we cut and unfolded, we had 8 legs! (just so happens that we were learning about symmetry a little in math…love when that works out!) We added googly eyes and a mouth using white paper. Most of my girls wanted to add a bow to their spider. :)
I think that turned out pretty cute, don't you?!
