Our Spider Friend...

We had an unexpected visitor drop in during our science time today!

This little spider literally dropped down from the ceiling in the middle of our Forces lesson. We just happened to be talking about pushes and pulls and one student mentioned how gravity pulls us down on Earth. Then {Enter Spider} to model how gravity works. Gotta love those unplanned teachable moments!

The kids, of course, thought it was super cool. One even asked if I had planned this spider entrance for the lesson. Um…couldn't even pretend to admit to that!

I actually didn't have too many squealers. We were too in awe.

I did have one brave little boy capture the spider and escort him outside. :)

Just thankful it didn't land on one of the kids!

I actually do have some really neat things to post that we are doing in class but for now, I'm off to bed.

I plan to share how our Letters to Santa: A Wish for Others lesson went. We have finished our letters and "emailing" to Santa this week. Then they will go on our bulletin board, just in time before the break! The kids did a great job! :)

We've also had a lot of fun learning about magnets this week too! Stay tuned. : )

12 Days of Christmas Problem Solving!

Can't wait to use these with my kids the next couple of weeks! I had a lot of fun creating this and know it will be great to help review our problem-solving steps when solving story problems!

This set features 7 problem-solving steps that will encourage students to stop and think AND show their thinking!

After learning/reviewing the 7 steps, they can use this fill-in-the-blank sheet of the problem-solving steps as a resource or take for a grade!

I have an example story problem for you to work through together with your students that explain each step. Here is a preview of the example.

Then there are the 12 Christmas-themed story problems with matching work pages.

And lastly, there is a pocket chart station activity where the kids order the problem-solving steps. Or you could use this as a review with the whole class.

The First Thanksgiving... with a focus on Sequencing!

Oh my goodness…it is almost Thanksgiving! I have a new product to share just. in. time!

In class this week, we are learning all about The First Thanksgiving by doing a Readers' Theatre. We have assigned parts and the kids are super excited. I created these sequencing activities to help the kids understand how it all went down. It was interesting when my kids completed their KWL chart this morning on what they already knew. (Get the KWL chart HERE from one of my fellow teachers!) Basically, we knew there were Pilgrims and Indians. Oh, and they came on a ship called the Mayflower. So...by the end of the week, they will know the order of events of this special American holiday.

Here are some of the activities that are included….

FIRST, teachers can read aloud The First Thanksgiving story…or print for individual students or partners!

THEN….students can complete this sequencing activity. I think I'm going to partner my kids up for this one!

 Next…a FLOW MAP!

Lastly, students can retell and summarize The First Thanksgiving story in their own words! There are 4 different writing pages, also available in black and white. :)

This is FREE for TUESDAY (11/19) only so get it now!!

HAVE FUN and HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

UPDATE: I wanted to post some pics of my munchkins completing the sequencing activity….

After reading through the Thanksgiving story (twice), I had the kids partner up and order the events on another sheet of paper. They did a great job, working together and discussing the events.

ANSWER KEY!!
This group got them all correct and in order.

If you downloaded this product, I hope you and your students enjoyed! I did receive some excellent feedback from some of you, so THANK YOU!!!
